For a trip through several countries, one regional eSIM usually costs only a little more than buying the cheapest plan in each country: on the four European routes we priced, $1.20–$3.82 more, for a single install and one shared data allowance. In Asia it depends on the route. Two separate plans for Japan and South Korea came to $8.08, half the cheapest regional plan ($16.09), while one regional plan for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia ($11.89) beat three country plans ($14.42).

  • Seven routes priced from the daily price check of 31 eSIM providers on 12 October 2026.
  • Cheapest regional plan for France, Italy and Spain: $8.70 (eSimGlobe, 5 GB, 30 days).
  • 10 GB across five countries including Switzerland: $11.99 on one plan (Global YO, 42 countries listed).
  • 423 regional plans with a published country list include France, Italy and Spain; only 219 include Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.
  • Unlimited data on one regional plan for about two weeks starts at $32.99 in Europe and $34.19 in South-East Asia.

Is a regional eSIM cheaper than separate country plans?

Not always, but the difference is usually small. The table compares the cheapest regional plan that lists every country on the route with the cheapest plan in each country, added up. Lower is cheaper.

Bar chart: cheapest regional eSIM versus separate country plans for seven trips. Japan and South Korea: $16.09 regional, $8.08 separately. Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia: $11.89 regional, $14.42 separately.

Europe: one plan costs a few dollars more

France, Italy and Spain, one week, 5 GB. The cheapest regional plan was eSimGlobe’s 5 GB, 30-day plan for $8.70 (34 countries listed). A plan in each country, eSIMCard in France ($2.40 for 3 GB), Yatelo in Italy ($2.70 for 2 GB), and Global YO in Spain ($2.40 for 3 GB), adds up to $7.50: $1.20 less, for three installs and a guess at how much data each country needs.

France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, two weeks, 10 GB. Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan for $11.99 (42 countries listed) covers all five. Five country plans come to $10.69, helped by some very cheap ones: Global YO sells 3 GB for 15 days in Germany for $1.28.

The UK, France and the Netherlands, 10 days, 8 GB. Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan for $11.99 (42 countries listed), against $8.17 for three country plans.

Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro, 10 days, 6 GB. Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan for $11.99 (42 countries listed), against $8.96 for three country plans. Fewer regional plans reach the Balkans: 219 list all three countries, compared with 423 for France, Italy and Spain. Asia: it depends on the route

Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, two weeks, 10 GB. The cheapest regional plan was Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan for $16.09 (24 countries listed). Three country plans, Global YO in Thailand ($3.49 for 5 GB), Orange Travel in Vietnam ($2.79 for 5 GB), and Yatelo in Cambodia ($6.60 for 5 GB), add up to $12.88.

Japan and South Korea, 10 days, 8 GB. Separate plans win clearly: eSIMCard in Japan ($3.28 for 5 GB) and eSimGlobe in South Korea ($4.80 for 5 GB) total $8.08, while the cheapest regional plan covering both was Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan for $16.09 (24 countries listed).

Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, two weeks, 10 GB. Here the regional plan is cheaper: Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan for $11.89 (8 countries listed), against $14.42 for Yatelo in Singapore ($3.98 for 5 GB), Yatelo in Malaysia ($5.45 for 5 GB), and Airhub in Indonesia ($4.99 for 4 GB).

When a regional eSIM is the better buy

  • Three or more countries, or a route that might change: one plan, one install, and the data is shared wherever you are.
  • Land crossings by train, bus or ferry: you do not have to switch eSIMs at the border.
  • Routes where it is simply cheaper, as for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

When separate country plans win

  • Two countries with longer stays in each, as with Japan and South Korea.
  • Destinations with very cheap local plans, such as Germany (3 GB for $1.28) or Switzerland (5 GB for $1.79).
  • Any route where a regional plan leaves out one of your countries.

Unlimited data across several countries

One unlimited regional plan for about a week in France, Italy and Spain started at $17.00 (eSimGlobe). For about two weeks it was $32.99 across the five-country Europe route (Global YO), $35.70 for Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia (eSimGlobe) and $34.19 for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia (Global YO). Most unlimited travel plans slow down after a daily allowance; see which providers publish it.

How we compared the prices

  • Prices come from the daily check of 31 providers’ own websites on 12 October 2026, converted to US dollars.
  • A regional plan counts only if the provider publishes its country list and that list includes every country on the route. Regional plans without a published list were left out, so a cheaper plan may exist that we could not verify.
  • Regional plans had to include at least the trip’s data and last at least the trip’s length. Unlimited plans are compared separately.
  • For the plan-per-country total, the trip’s data was split evenly between the countries, and each plan had to last at least that country’s share of the days (minimum three). We took the cheapest single-country plan meeting both.
  • Real trips rarely split data evenly, and a regional plan’s data is shared, so these totals favour separate plans slightly. Network quality, hotspot rules and activation terms were not compared. Prices change daily: check the destination page before buying, and read how we compare plans.

Questions about multi-country eSIMs

Is there one eSIM for multiple countries?

Yes. Regional and worldwide eSIMs cover a list of countries on one plan. On 12 October 2026, 423 plans with a published country list included France, Italy and Spain, and 393 included Japan and South Korea. Check that every country on your route is on the list before you buy.

What is the cheapest eSIM for multiple countries in Europe?

For a week in France, Italy and Spain with 5 GB, the cheapest regional plan was eSimGlobe’s 5 GB, 30-day plan at $8.70. For 10 GB over two weeks including Switzerland, Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day plan cost $11.99 and lists 42 countries. Prices checked 12 October 2026.

What is the cheapest eSIM for multiple countries in Asia?

It depends on the route. For Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, Global YO’s 10 GB, 30-day regional plan cost $11.89. For Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia the cheapest 10 GB regional plan was $16.09, while three country plans added up to $12.88.

Is it cheaper to buy an eSIM for each country?

Often slightly, if you can predict each country’s data: separate plans were $1.20–$3.82 cheaper on our four Europe routes and $8.01 cheaper for Japan and South Korea, but $2.53 dearer for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Can I keep several eSIMs on one phone?

Most recent phones can store several eSIM profiles and switch between them in settings, so you can install a plan for each country before you leave. Check your phone’s limit, and turn on data roaming for the eSIM you are using.

The practical takeaway

For three or more countries in Europe, a regional eSIM costs a few dollars more than the cheapest country plans and saves you guessing each country’s data. For two countries, or routes such as Japan and South Korea, price the separate plans first. Either way, check that every country is on the plan’s list: compare Europe and Asia regional plans, or a single destination such as Japan or South Korea.

Use the research to compare your trip

Research articles describe a dated snapshot. For current listed prices, compare eSIM plans by destination, check provider catalogues, or explore regional plans for a multi-country trip.

For unlimited plans, check published full-speed data allowances before comparing the price per day.
